About the Department:

The Department of Commerce and Management Studies is one of the pioneering departments of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University (in the erstwhile post graduate centre of Andhra University) which came into existence in the year 1988-89 by starting with M.Com course. The Department started commerce course in the name of M.Com (Accounting and Taxation) aimed at satisfying the need of human resource of corporate with sound accounting and taxation knowledge to supplement the professional accountants and taxation experts. Differentiating itself from the traditional courses, the Department came into existence to offer M.B.A. program in the year 1993-94. With the focus on Finance, Marketing and Human Resource Management, the Department aims at imparting in-depth knowledge and professional skills required for handling the managerial functions of business entities and corporate enterprises. The Department also offers M.Phil and Ph.D Programmes in the field of Finance, Banking, Marketing and Personnel Management. Department of Commerce and Management Studies has been imparting quality management education to develop dedicated, innovative and effective managers, researchers and teachers for four decades. The philosophy of the Department is translated into a mission of creating wholesome personality of human beings with a view to produce effective managers, researchers and teachers. Modern attitude, practical wisdom, knowledge and skill relevant for management are deeply ingrained in the students. DCMS uses rigorous multifaceted pedagogy with an effective interface with the industry to translate the mission into action. It creates opportunities for its students to enhance their understanding of economic, social and political environment to broaden their horizon not only to adjust to change but to become catalyst, and to develop their power to conceptualize, decide and communicate. The specific objectives of the program are to create broader understanding of management thoughts and ideas, familiarizing the participants to the ever changing business environment, establishing the link between theoretical concepts learnt to the real life situations, enhancing analytical and decision making skills so as to develop responsive managers who can act as the catalyst in development of the society.
